About Us
Frantik Designs are the fearlessly colourful and bold original designs created and individually hand painted by Queensland artist Heather McCoy.
I am a self taught artist and began painting on flowerpots as a hobby in 1988 when I moved to Cairns. I sold them at Rustys Markets for several years.
In 1996 Frantik Designs became my full time occupation and I opened a shop in Grafton St, Cairns, sharing space with another artist.
Whilst in the shop I designed and produced a whole range of items, which included chairs, small tables, lamps , mirrors and clocks. I used wood, papier mache, and recycled materials .
18 months later I moved back to my home studio and went into wholesaling painted tiles and small wooden items to gift shops around Australia.
In 2003 I opened a gallery in Sheridan St to showcase my paintings and worked from there for 4 years. This was where my iconic crazy cross-eyed emu was hatched.
I was inspired to learn pottery after a trip to New Zealand in 2012. After an introductory course at Tafe and a few private lessons I became totally obsessed and I now produce wheel thrown functional pieces in my trademark colours and style.
Currently I work from my home studio in Townsville, along with the help of my husband Adrian, creating many gift and souvenir lines which are sold in select stores throughout Australia.
